BP decided to get rid of its stake in Rosneft

The British oil and gas company BP decided to sell its 19.75% stake in Rosneft, which it owned in 2013, „because of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.” The current head of BP, Bernard Looney, and its former head, Robert Dudley, are immediately leaving the board of directors of Rosneft, The Moscow Times reports , citing a company statement.
“Like many others, I was deeply shocked and saddened by the situation that is unfolding in Ukraine, and I sympathize with all of my heart to all those affected. This forced us to fundamentally rethink BP’s position towards Rosneft. „I am convinced that the decisions that we made as a board of directors are not only correct, but also in the long-term interests of BP,” Looney said.
“The Russian attack on Ukraine is an act of aggression that has tragic consequences for the entire region. BP has been in Russia for over 30 years with brilliant Russian colleagues. However, this military action has changed everything… our cooperation with Rosneft, a state-owned enterprise, simply cannot continue,” added Helge Lund, Chairman of the Board of Directors of BP.
